I'm S. Sonu Mehtha pursuing B.A.LLB. at School Of Excellence In Law and am in my second year of the study. There are two specific reasons as to why I'm determinant towards spreading awareness on mediation,
1. Not everyone can afford the tedious long process of courts.
2. Court is not the only resort/option and citizens should know it. (Law students and Lawyers should make sure of this and should take this as a social responsibility) I m unambiguous as to why I'm applying to be a Student Ambassador.
While carrying out the mediation awareness drives in the city, the following things would be on my checklist
Reaching out to people in a way that they'd understand the most - Talking to a group of locals in English and giving them long seminars is not going to be of any use. Communicating in their Regional Language "Tamil" will be a focus. This will enable easy understanding and produce more interest from the other end. (Doing a street play in the same language in areas like Purasaiwalkam, Ambattur, Vilivakkam, Ennore)
Making sure that all classes of the society are being benefited by the drive - A wage labor can't afford losing multiple day wages in the process of going to the court, justice would cost starvation to him and his family. These are the sectors that should be aware of alternatives. (Anna Nagar, Vyasarpadi, Ayanavarm, Egmore, Tambaram, Thiruvanmiyur)
Targeting areas of mixed audience - The Anna Centenary Library attracts different sets of people on a daily basis. Instead of spreading awareness to a set of audience, the aim should be to reach out for the most in different fields for if you educate one in a family, you educate the family.
