Born and brought up in Kolkata, Atish Chakraborty is presently a 3rd-year student of BA/LLB course at Amity Law School, Kolkata. He has been working as a lecturer at Prime Tutorials where he trains young law aspirants for the UG CLAT entrance. He looks forward to publishing a book on the Law of Contract. He has taken a keen interest in the field of arbitration and mediation and he credits this to the constant exposure that he has had while working as an intern under the Hon'ble Mr. Justice Dipankar Datta where he was able to view some of the problems like lack of awareness; fear to approach the court, inability to afford for legal proceedings and so on. Recently, he has also been bestowed with an award for providing one of the best ideas in the Access to Justice Conference 2018 which was organized at NUJS Kolkata.
He strongly believes that in various matters, alternative methods like mediation can work to be more effective and efficient in resolving disputes and thereby ensuring better access to justice. He will be spreading awareness especially in the local slums and dwelling areas in and around Kolkata where people still are unaware of their own rights, and emphasize on how trying mediation can be a better way to resolve disputes than knocking the Court which is already overburdened with increasing backlog of cases.
