I am a 2nd-year student (BALLB) of National Law University Odisha. I want to join India Mediation Week as a student ambassador to promote the practice of mediation in localities around my college especially in persons belonging to less aware sections of the society. Mediation has emerged as one of the cheapest methods of dispute resolutions methods in recent time and by adoption of the same to resolve the conflict between lesser privileged sections of the society will not only result in curbing the pendency of cases in courts but reduce the costs related to the whole process which is generally borne by parties. Since my college is situated in Cuttack I can contribute a lot to this movement of generating awareness regarding the process of Mediation. We can form a committee in the college itself and then we can approach persons belonging to different sections of society in the city like street vendors, shopkeepers, laborers etc. We will tell them about the process of mediation and benefits of adopting it for the resolution of their disputes. If the parties are willing, we will try to resolve the disputes they have with other persons. I would try to give my best to make this movement of, mediation a successful one in my city and state.
