Mediation Awareness drive
In a mediation awareness drive, a group of law students directly engage with the general public and tell them about the benefits of mediation.
Students of NUJS, Kolkata in collaboration with the NUJS legal aid society have organized 17 mediation awareness drives till now. They have engaged with around 700 people and have received around 55 disputes/legal issues. We have collaborated with lawyers/mediators in Kolkata, who have agreed to provide pro-bono mediation service for the cases we get from these mediation awareness drives.
Also, some people have legal issues such as getting a registered probate will from court, making affidavits, birth certificates or they need some legal guidance. In those situations, the NUJS legal aid society tries to help them.
The aim is to cover 50 areas in Kolkata by 7th of September, 2017
Mediators Training
NUJS, Kolkata has collaborated with ADR-ODR London to provide a 40 hour professional training programme utilizing simulations, lectures, coaching and demonstrations. This programme provides you mediator accreditation and is open for everyone.
Informal events
NUJS, Kolkata is organizing various creative events to take the message of mediation to the general public of Kolkata:
a) Flash Mob- A group of students will perform a flash mob at City Centre Mall 1 to promote the social cause of mediation.
b) Street Plays- A group of students will perform street plays in different parts of Kolkata to promote the social cause of mediation.
c) Lawyers v Students Football Match- A fun lawyers v students football match will be organized in the NUJS quad, which will be open to everyone, to showcase the support of Kolkata Bar Association for the cause of mediation.
